Port Territory consists of 141 hectares, with 54 berths and over 9 km of berth line. The port is protected from heavy seas by break-water.
The port’s technical capacities allow handling of more than 25 million tons of dry and 25 million tons of bulk cargoes annually.
The Container terminals provide handling of over 900,000 TEU per year.
The passenger terminal is capable to serve up to 4 million tourists a year.
Types of cargoes such as oil and oil products in bulk, liquefied gas, tropical and vegetable oils, technical oils, containers of all types and sizes, ferrous and nonferrous metals, ore, pig-iron, raw sugar in bulk, grains in bulk, perishables in containers, various cargoes in bags, boxes, packages, big-bags and integrated cargo units, motor transport are handled in the port. Cargoes potentially dangerous for the environment are an exception.
Within the port territory there are eight production-handling terminals for dry cargoes handling, passenger terminal, oil harbor and two container terminals, terminals for vegetative and technical oils processing, specialized berths for Ro-Ro type vessels. In the territory of the Quarantine jetty, a free (special) economic zone “Porto-Franco” operates. The developed transport infrastructure allows delivering of cargoes into the port by road truck, railway, marine and river transport.
The modern port represents the form of state-private partnership bringing together over 400 companies of small and medium business which carry out a wide range of port services.
Anchorage Areas
Two anchorages are available at the Odesa Roadstead:
- No 354: for large capacity vessels, tankers, vessels with dangerous cargoes and other vessels standing by to enter the port.
- No 355: used by vessels clearing in or out of the port and those taking on water, supplies, fuel or undergoing minor repairs.
Port Restrictions
The port can accommodate vessels with:
- Max LOA = 250 m (300 m for container vessels)
- Max draft = 12.5 m (14 m for container vessels)
Salinity: 1010 – 1012
Tide
There is wind tide varying between 40 and 60 cm.
Weather Restrictions
The port is open for navigation all year round, subject to actual weather, wind condition, sea level and ice situation with ice-breaker assistance in severe winters about 30 days of the year.

Ballast Waters Requirements
According to MARPOL and the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine Regulations, all ballast should be changed in Black Sea before arrival at deep part of Black Sea and outside of the exclusive economic zone of Ukraine. The exchange must be recorded in ships’ official logs. Subject to appropriate request prior to arrival, the Master has to declare to Agent quantity of ballast water that he intends to discharge in harbor for the cargo operation.
Maximum permissible concentration of main pollutants in internal sea waters and territorial waters of Ukraine:
- Suspended solids, mg/cu. Dm – 2,0
- Salinity, g/cu. dm – 18
- Oil, mg/cu. – 0.05 dm
- Iron, mg/cu. dm – 0.05 dm
