Pivdennyi

The port of Pivdennyi (formerly known as “Yuzhnyi”), one of the leading ports on the Black Sea, was founded on 27 July 1978, when the first ship “Bulduru” moored for loading ammonia.

Pivdennyi is one of the most promising hubs of Ukraine, which is located on the banks of Ajalyk estuary in the north-west coast of the Black Sea. This is a harbor of promising enterprises that can provide handling of more than 47.5 million tons of various cargoes per year.

 

The high competitiveness of the port to other ports of Ukraine is conditioned by its geographical location, year-round guaranteed safe navigation and uninterrupted cargo operations. The depth of the approach channel and berths allows acceptance of large fleet with a total load capacity of up to 200 thousand tons.

 

The port of Pivdennyi is a universal port, which specializes in handling chemicals and fertilizers, bulk, liquid bulk and general cargo.

  • No 356 for gas carrying vessels in depth of 14-21 m
  • No 357 in depth of 15-22 m
  • No 358 in depth of 16-18 m for other vessels

Port Restrictions

  • Approach channel restriction: 19.4 m brackish waters (actual depth – 20.4 m)
  • Inner channel restrictions at TIS terminal: 14.8 m (actual depth – 15.5 m)
  • Density of sea water 1.009 – 1.012 depending on direction of wind and current of water, mostly 1.011

Weather Restrictions

Pivdennyi port is a non-freezing port, but sometimes during winter port harbor may be covered by broken ice, coming from nearby Pivdennyi Buh river due to NE-E wind. During such period, Harbor Master may announce ice campaign but usually this lasts only for a few days.

Ballast Waters Requirements

According to MARPOL and the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine Regulations, all ballast should be changed in Black Sea before arrival at deep part of Black Sea and outside of the exclusive economic zone of Ukraine. The exchange must be recorded in ships’ official logs. Subject to appropriate request prior to arrival, the Master has to declare to Agent quantity of ballast water that he intends to discharge in harbor for the cargo operation.

Maximum permissible concentration of main pollutants in internal sea waters and territorial waters of Ukraine:

  • Suspended solids, mg/cu. Dm – 2,0
  • Salinity, g/cu. dm – 18
  • Oil, mg/cu. – 0.05 dm
  • Iron, mg/cu. dm  – 0.05 dm
